You Are the Ecological Stewards

While you are embraced by the fields and forest, you will give back that environmental love in acts of stewardship that respond to the land with respect and ensures future generations will too. As a member of hippocampus aligned with our Ecological Guidelines and natural methods for controlling invasive species without use of insecticides or pesticides. Where do you wish to direct your energy? An artful pollinator garden, solar shower, species at risk protection program, the natural moss and driftwood salamander sanctuary, creative fencing, bat boxes, nesting boxes,  the list goes on…

As a founding member, your opinions and preferences will guide the design and development of your own nature sanctuary.

Each member participant agrees to:

1. Practice sustainable agriculture: Use organic and sustainable farming practices that minimize the use of pesticides and fertilizers, and promote soil health. Rotate crops, use cover crops, and practice conservation tillage to reduce soil erosion and improve soil quality.

2. Protect water resources: Implement best management practices to protect water quality in ponds, streams, and other water bodies. This may include planting buffer strips, reducing runoff, and minimizing the use of chemicals near water sources.

3. Preserve natural habitats: Protect and preserve natural habitats such as forests, wetlands, and grasslands. This may include creating wildlife corridors, planting native vegetation, and minimizing disturbance to natural areas.

4. Manage invasive species: Control invasive species that can harm native plants and wildlife. This may include using mechanical or chemical methods to remove invasive species, and planting native species to restore damaged areas.

5. Promote biodiversity: Encourage biodiversity by planting a variety of crops and native plants, and providing habitat for wildlife.
